Beverly Molina

Santa Clara Firefighter

Author, Youth Leadership Facilitator

 Brave and Awake

As a firefighter paramedic, writer, active community member, mentor, and free-form dancer, Beverly believes strongly in serving and inspiring people in her local community and beyond. Beverly brings the multifaceted experiences from all her endeavors to empower and motivate people to follow their dreams, break through personal and social barriers, and celebrate their authentic self-expression. Whether she is teaching students, helping people on the emergency scene, interacting with people in her community or on the dance floor, Beverly infuses her interactions with optimism and encouragement.

Beverly has been a firefighter, responding to emergencies for the Santa Clara Fire Department for the last twenty-two years. In 2010, Beverly received the Firefighter of the Year Award from the local chapter of Optimist International. Additionally, Beverly has been nominated, twice in her career by her firefighting peers, for the Lance Michaelis Award for Inspiration and Positive Attitude.

Beverly is also a certified Critical Incident Stress Debriefer in her county, trained to debrief emergency responders and lay people after traumatic incidents. Additionally, Beverly was Assistant Program Coordinator for Better Together, a youth leadership program, sponsored by the fire department and local union. For nineteen years, Beverly voluntarily taught and mentored Better Together pre-teens in self-esteem, communication, teamwork, and other important life skills during their sixth-grade year.

Ms. Molina is also the author of Brave and Awake, A Story of Authentic Becoming in which she explores personal empowerment, self-realization and being brave. In her book, she often draws from her experiences as a firefighter on the emergency scene and from her experiences on the dance floor. She also explores her mixed heritage from a Taiwanese father and German mother and credits her mixed heritage experiences for helping her to view the world with an open-minded lens.

Beverly is currently working in a special assignment in the Fire Department as the Community Engagement/Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Officer. Her work highlights the importance of community and inclusivity, and she hopes to build bridges of understanding within the diverse communities of the Bay Area.

Beverly Molina lives in the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, son, and their two Chiweenie dogs. When she’s not putting out fires and saving lives, she enjoys running trails, perfecting her prose, marveling at the small discoveries in her garden, and dancing in her wild, natural state.
